Americorps: VISTA - YAP Development

The Youth Advocacy Project, a multidisciplinary initiative of the state’s public defender office that combines legal, clinical, and community outreach services for court-involved youth in the courts and the community, is seeking a VISTA member to enhance capacity of the Development Department of the Youth Advocacy Project. This exciting position offers an opportunity to effect positive change in the juvenile justice system.

Responsibilities: Participate in the organization and presentation of the Youth Advocacy Project’s 15th Anniversary Celebration and fundraising event in November. Assist with compiling, editing, and distributing a resource guide of programs available for at-risk and system-involved youth. Expand lists of potential funders, including foundation, corporations, and private individuals. Enhance existing media products, including written materials, website, and video. Support the Youth Advocacy Foundation Board of Directors.

Requirements: Strong candidates will have excellent written and verbal communication skills. Should have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office software. Should be well organized and able to manage a project from start to finish. Should be self-motivated and committed to helping high risk youth.

VISTA members are part of AmeriCorps, a network of local, state, and national service programs that connects more than 70,000 Americans each year in intensive service to meet our country’s critical needs in education, public safety, health, and the environment. AmeriCorps*VISTA members leverage human, financial, and material resources to increase the capacity of low-income communities across the country to solve their own problems. Members receive training and professional development opportunities, an annual living allowance, a choice between an education award or end-of-service stipend at the completion of one year of service, health insurance, and childcare assistance subsidies. PLEASE NOTE: VISTA MEMBERS MAY NOT BE IN SCHOOL OR WORKING ANOTHER JOB WHILE COMPLETING THEIR YEAR OF SERVICE. For more information about VISTA: http://americorps.gov/

Salary: Annual Living Allowance: $11,388 + Choice between End-of-service Educational Award or Stipend + Health Coverage

Responsibilities: Update existing training materials, assist in developming new training materials; assist in developing new training topics; serve as liaison between JDN and county bar advocate programs to meet the training needs of lawyers; assist in maintaining and updating JDN lawyer database and expert database; assist in the research of systemic issues that JDN works on; maintain statistics on advice calls, number of lawyers we reach and number of children effected by the lawyers we train; assist in compiling data for grant management.
