AMERICORPS*VISTA POSITION FOR EDLAW PROJECT
The EdLaw Project is an
advocacy organization created to ensure equal opportunity in
life achievement for Boston youth by enforcing every child’s
right to a quality education. The Project is an initiative
of the Children’s Law Center
of Massachusetts
and the
Youth Advocacy
Project of the Committee for Public Counsel Services.
The Children’s Law Center is a private, non-profit legal
services organization for indigent children offering a wide
range of legal assistance, primarily in the metropolitan
Boston-North Shore area. The Youth Advocacy Project is a
multidisciplinary initiative of the state’s public defender
office that combines legal, clinical, and community outreach
services for court-involved youth in the courts and the
community.
Responsibilities:
EdLaw's AmeriCorps position expands
our ability to do outreach and community education and
empowerment as well as assess our outcomes and foster
sustainability. The VISTA will: Coordinate
workshops/trainings/community forums on a range of education
issues; respond to requests for information; create and
maintain materials, media and statistics for outcomes
assessment and fundraising purposes.
Requirements:
The ideal candidate will possess a
background in education, youthwork, experience working
within urban school systems, and/or related systems such as
social services or juvenile justice. Experience working
with indigent families and/or immigrant families is
desirable. Bilingualism is a plus. Strong candidates will
have excellent written and verbal communication skills, be
well organized and be self-motivated. All motivated
applicants will be considered.

state, and national service programs that connects more than
70,000 Americans each year in intensive service to meet our
country’s critical needs in education, public safety,
health, and the environment. AmeriCorps*VISTA members
leverage human, financial, and material resources to
increase the capacity of low-income communities across the
country to solve their own problems.

Salary:
Annual Living Allowance: $13,548 + Choice between
End-of-service Educational Award or Stipend + Health
Coverage. Additional training and professional development
opportunities and childcare assistance subsidies are
available.
